- You must be a former permanent resident or served in the Defence services of Australia.
- You may have to show an Assurance of Support

- You have to meet certain eligibility criteria

While applying for this visa, you can be inside or outside Australia but you should not be in immigration clearance. If you apply when you are inside Australia, you will not be granted a visa if you are outside Australia when the department makes the decision. If you apply when you are outside Australia, you will not be granted a visa if you are inside Australia when the department makes the decision.

This is a permanent visa. You can stay for an indefinite period. When you get the visa, you become a permanent visa.
